John de Dios

John de Dios, the team leader, is a journalist from Tucson, Ariz.

As the team leader of Scryer, de Dios will coordinate with the clients, working together to generate the best product possible according to the client’s needs. De Dios will also manage the team of writers and visual storytellers for the best creative success for the client.

Before creating Scryer, de Dios worked on written, audio, video, and photo stories for more than a decade. De Dios served as a mentor for The New York Times Student Journalism Institute in Tucson, serving on the web, layout, photo, and multimedia desks. De Dios is very much involved in the diversity journalism organizations, mentoring for the UNITY Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the Native American Journalists Association, and for the Asian American Journalists Association. Before that, de Dios co-taught courses in photojournalism, magazine photography, page design, science journalism, multimedia, web production, video editing and others for high school, college undergrads and graduates and professionals. He has also supervised and edited the production of three community publications – two small community newspapers, and an online magazine; and a TV news broadcast magazine.

He is a contributor for the Scientific American Blog, the Tucson Weekly Blog, has contributed to Fox News Latino, the Arizona Republic Travel section and others. De Dios has served as a creative director for a special publication created out of a Science Journalism course out of the University of Arizona College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

De Dios is also a member of the National Association of Science Writers. De Dios serves as the social media coordinator for Reporting Unlimited with Mort Rosenblum, a veteran international and environmental journalist.

De Dios is also an avid fan of horror movies and a tremendous dog lover.
